Class Descriptions

Ballet

Our Ballet class styles are a mixture of Cecchetti, Classical, and Russian. Being a very structured style of dance all students must be in the specific class leotard, pink tights, proper ballet shoes, and their hair in a bun. This style of dance can be seen in many places around the world in different variations. Some of the most famous are "The Nutcracker" and "Swan Lake" just to name a few.

Contemporary

Our Contemporary classes are described as, the expression of movment to the feeling in the music. This style can range from thrashy, jumpy, jazzy movement to soft, slow, elegant, and balletic movment. This style is a very performance based style even while in class you want to make sure every movement is part of that performance.

Jazz

Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns.  Our Jazz class is a new-age mix of 80's Jazz and Girly Street Jazz to create a fun, energetic, and inspirational style of dance. This style is growing more and more popular with the youth of Los Angeles and New York City in addition to the fact of its popularity on television shows, movies, music videos and commercials . Bringing it to our family here at DCDA will help each student in pursuing a dance career outside of the Sparks/Reno area.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance style has its primary basis in ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom and airier aspects of jazz, contemporary and modern dance. It is typically considered a sub-category of jazz and/or contemporary dance, the latter itself being an emerging category. Lyrical dance is expressive, simultaneously subtle and dynamic, focused on conveying musicality and motion through movement.

Technique

Technique is a class that helps dancers, of all experiences, express themselves through the beauty and grace of dance. Technique helps work on all aspects of dancing to include foot placement, balance control, leaps and turns.

Hip Hop

The phrase hip~hop is a combination of two separate slang terms—"hip" meaning current or in the know, and "hop" for the hopping movement. Early hip~hop has often been credited with helping to reduce inner-city gang violence by replacing physical violence with dance and artwork battles. Nayte brings the music and helps the students create expressive movement with the hip~hop energy.

Ballroom

Ballroom is a group class session that teaches various styles of Ballroom, Latin, Country and Swing such as the Tango, Waltz, Cha Cha, and even Samba.  It is an evening for adults to come out and have FUN, learn and practice a new dance that can be used at formal events and even just a night out on the town. To get a deeper understanding of the dances, Private Lessons are also available.
